Maintenance Engineer About the Opportunity We're recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced Maintenance Engineer to join their established engineering team at their manufacturing facility commutable from Grimsby, Scunthorpe, Hull. This is an excellent opportunity for a methodical and technically capable engineer who enjoys preventative maintenance, fault finding and working on specialist manufacturing equipment within a modern production environment. The successful candidate will be joining a business that values quality engineering, forward planning and continuous improvement. Salary: £41,500 - £43,500 depending on experience. Overtime is available when required and paid at an enhanced rate of £30.00 per hour. Working Hours: Monday to Friday 6:00am - 2:30pm / 8:00am - 4:30pm The Role This is predominantly a preventative maintenance role, with approximately 70% planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and 30% reactive breakdown response. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining specialist production equipment to maximise machine reliability and minimise downtime. This role would particularly suit an engineer who takes a logical, analytical approach to maintenance—someone who enjoys diagnosing faults, planning the repair strategy and carrying out work accurately rather than rushing to replace components. Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across a wide range of manufacturing equipment.
- Respond efficiently to machinery breakdowns, diagnosing electrical and mechanical faults to minimise production downtime.
- Perform electrical fault finding on PLC-controlled equipment, drives, motors, sensors, inverters and automated machinery.
- Maintain and repair specialist manufacturing equipment including:
- High-pressure water jetting machines
- Gearboxes
- Pumps
- Vacuum lifting systems
- Conveyors and associated production equipment
- Carry out precision engineering work, ensuring all repairs are completed accurately using correct torque settings and manufacturer specifications.
- Read and interpret schematics and technical documentation.
- Conduct thorough root cause analysis to identify recurring issues and implement long-term corrective actions.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve equipment reliability, safety and production efficiency.
- Assist with machinery installations, upgrades and commissioning projects.
- Accurately complete maintenance documentation using the Shire CMMS system.
- Work closely with production teams to ensure equipment is maintained to the highest standards.
- Maintain excellent housekeeping standards within the engineering department.
- Ensure full compliance with Health & Safety legislation and company procedures at all times.
About You We're looking for a proactive Maintenance Engineer with excellent diagnostic skills and a structured approach to problem-solving. Rather than simply reacting to faults, you'll enjoy taking the time to understand the root cause, carefully planning the repair and delivering a high-quality, long-lasting solution. Essential Skills & Experience
- Level 3 qualification (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Maintenance.
- Proven experience within a manufacturing, industrial or production environment.
- Strong electrical fault-finding skills on automated production machinery.
- Experience carrying out planned preventative maintenance programmes.
- Excellent understanding of electrical control systems, motors, drives, sensors and inverters.
- Ability to work accurately and with a high level of precision.
- Experience working to specified torque settings and engineering tolerances.
- Strong diagnostic and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings.
- Experience using Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), ideally Shire or similar.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a close-knit engineering team.
- A methodical, logical approach to maintenance with the ability to assess, plan and execute repairs effectively.
- Strong commitment to Health & Safety and continuous improvement.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification.
- Experience working with high-pressure water jetting equipment.
- Knowledge of CNC machinery and automated manufacturing equipment.
- Experience maintaining gearboxes, pumps and vacuum lifting systems.
- Working knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Experience within manufacturing or FMCG environments.
- Multi-skilled maintenance experience with both electrical and mechanical systems.
- Understanding of PLC fault diagnosis (programming experience advantageous but not essential).
- Experience supporting machinery upgrades, reliability projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
Why Apply?
- Competitive salary of £41,500 - £43,500
- Monday to Friday working pattern with no rotating shifts
- Overtime available at £30.00 per hour
- Predominantly preventative maintenance role (70% PPM)
- Opportunity to work on specialist automated manufacturing equipment
- Stable, growing business with a strong engineering culture
- Excellent opportunity for long-term career development
