Welding Instructor (Training Provided)
Barnsley, South Yorkshire
Are you an experienced Welder Fabricator looking for a new challenge?
Perhaps you've spent years in fabrication, manufacturing, or heavy engineering and are starting to think about a role where you can use your knowledge differently. If you're passionate about the trade, enjoy helping others, and want a better work-life balance without leaving welding behind, this could be the opportunity you've been looking for.
Our Client is a specialist welding training provider with an excellent reputation for developing the next generation of skilled welders. As a family-owned organisation, we believe people come first – both our learners and our employees. We are committed to creating a supportive environment where staff feel valued, empowered, and able to make a genuine difference.
The Opportunity of a Welding Instructor
This role offers the chance to transition from industry into training and education, helping apprentices and learners develop the practical skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to build successful careers in welding and fabrication.
You don't need to be an experienced teacher. If you have strong welding skills, industry experience, and a desire to pass on your knowledge, full support will be provided to help you develop as a trainer and instructor.
Unlike many production-based welding environments, this role focuses on quality over quantity, giving you the time and opportunity to mentor individuals and see the impact of your work first-hand.
What You'll Be Doing as a Welding Instructor
- Deliver practical and theory-based welding training to Level 2 and Level 3 learners
- Coach, mentor, and support learners from a variety of backgrounds and experience levels
- Create a safe, inclusive, and engaging workshop environment
- Assess learner progress and provide constructive feedback
- Promote industry best practice, weld quality standards, and workshop safety
- Contribute to continuous improvement of training delivery and learner experience
Working Pattern & Benefits
- 4 days teaching, 1 day administration
- Work-from-home option for administration day following successful completion of probation
- Approximately 12 learners per 6-week intake
- Working hours: 08:00–16:00 Monday to Friday
- Teaching hours: 09:00–15:00
- 25 days annual leave plus Bank Holidays
- Competitive salary dependent on experience
- Small learner groups, allowing meaningful mentoring and support
- Supportive, collaborative, family-oriented culture
- Excellent work-life balance compared with many traditional welding and fabrication environments
What We're Looking For
- Strong multi-process welding skills
- Experience assessing weld quality and an understanding of welding inspection principles
- Relevant welding qualifications, certifications, and/or apprenticeship background
- Knowledge of health and safety requirements within workshop environments
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- A genuine passion for developing people and supporting others to succeed
- Teaching qualification (such as PTTLS) desirable, but support will be provided for the right candidate willing to work towards it
Why Consider This Role?
This is more than just another welding position. It's an opportunity to step away from production pressures and use your experience to shape future welders entering the industry.
You'll join a growing organisation where staff wellbeing, quality training, and learner success are genuinely prioritised. If you're looking for a role where your expertise can make a lasting difference while enjoying a healthier work-life balance, we'd love to hear from you.
