Fire Project Manager

Location: South East / London
Salary: £60,000–£65,000 DOE
Benefits: Company car or car allowance + 10% annual bonus
Working Pattern: Predominantly site-based, with occasional attendance at an office in Reading (approximately fortnightly/monthly)

The Role

We are seeking an experienced Fire Project Manager to oversee the successful delivery of fire protection projects across the South East and London.

The ideal Fire Project Manager will have a strong electrical background, together with experience in fire detection, fire suppression and data centre environments.

You will take ownership of project scope, programme, budget, quality, safety and client satisfaction, coordinating internal teams, subcontractors and stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered safely, commercially and to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

Project Planning & Delivery

• Define project scope, objectives, deliverables and programmes.
• Prepare project budgets, cash flow forecasts and cost plans.
• Coordinate project start-up meetings and review designs, specifications and system layouts.
• Manage procurement of materials, plant, labour and subcontract services.
• Oversee site operations and ensure key milestones are achieved.
• Coordinate design, engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning teams.
• Ensure works comply with relevant fire safety legislation, standards and best practice, including BS 5839 and BS 7671.

Commercial & Financial Management

• Monitor project costs, budgets, forecasts and cost-to-complete.
• Manage applications for payment, variations and invoicing.
• Administer subcontractor accounts, valuations and final accounts.
• Identify and escalate commercial risks, scope changes and cost deviations.

Client & Stakeholder Management

• Act as the main point of contact for clients, consultants and project stakeholders.
• Attend progress meetings and site inspections and provide clear project updates.
• Maintain strong professional relationships and proactively resolve issues.
• Drive high levels of client satisfaction through quality and reliable delivery.

Quality, Safety & Leadership

• Ensure compliance with company, HSEQ and environmental procedures.
• Support audits, inspections and toolbox talks.
• Monitor subcontractor and supplier performance and address non-conformances.
• Lead and support site teams, subcontractors and junior staff.
• Promote continuous improvement and high standards of project delivery.

Skills, Knowledge & Experience

• Proven experience as a Fire Project Manager or in a similar project management role within fire protection or building services.
• Strong electrical experience, with knowledge of fire detection and suppression systems.
• Previous experience working on data centre projects is essential.
• Strong commercial, budgeting, cost control and contract administration skills.
• Experience managing subcontractors and self-delivery teams.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics and compliance documentation.
• Strong problem-solving, organisational and communication skills.
• Good understanding of construction programmes, sequencing and project lifecycles.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word and Outlook; project management/ERP experience is advantageous.

Essential Requirements

• NVQ Level 3 or above in Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.
• Valid CSCS card.
• SMSTS qualification.
• Full UK driving licence.

Desirable

• HNC/HND or Degree in Engineering, Fire Safety or Building Services.
• Fire system design or commissioning qualifications, such as FIA/BS 5839 training.
• First Aid at Work and/or PASMA/IPAF.
• Knowledge of CDM Regulations.
• Experience working for a principal contractor or specialist subcontractor.

Package

• £60,000–£65,000 salary, depending on experience.
• Company car or car allowance.
• 10% annual bonus.
• Projects across London and the South East.
• Occasional requirement to attend the Reading office, typically fortnightly or monthly.
