Mechanical Workshop Fitter

Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:45am – 4:15pm (39 hours per week)
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience + overtime
The Role
We are currently seeking a skilled Mechanical Workshop Fitter to join our busy engineering team. This hands-on role involves the dismantling, inspection, repair, and reassembly of mechanical equipment such as gearboxes, winches, hot blocks, hydraulic pumps and motors. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in heavy industry, plant machinery, HGV, or crane maintenance.
Key Responsibilities

Strip down, inspect, and reassemble mechanical components including gearboxes, hot blocks, and winches

Clean parts thoroughly and check for faults, wear, or defects

Repair or replace damaged parts as necessary

Work with hydraulic systems including pumps and motors

Complete inspection and test sheets accurately and in a timely manner

Carry out testing procedures to ensure equipment functions safely and effectively

Maintain a clean and safe working environment in line with company policies

Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding job progress or issues
Candidate Requirements

Level 3 qualified Mechanical Technician (or equivalent)

Proven experience working in a mechanical fitting role, ideally within heavy industry, plant, HGV or cranes

Strong understanding of mechanical systems and hydraulic equipment

Ability to work methodically and safely with attention to detail

Good communication and record-keeping skills

Team player with a proactive and flexible approach

Overtime rates:

Time and a half after 39 hours during the week and on Saturdays

Double time on Sundays
