Team Leader

Purpose

  • To manage the team and be directly responsible for all production aspects relating to quality, cost, delivery, safety, continuous improvement and engagement. The role will carry a strong emphasis on performance evaluation, analysis and the planning and scheduling of people and workload.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the plant meets both internal and external customer expectations by establishing and maintaining a right first-time manufacturing process and culture. Delegation of tasks negotiate workload and assess Operator performance.
  • Understand the Quality requirements for your area and what the customer expects.
  • Ensure all operations comply with the company QMS and all other internal/external standards. Participate in Audits & reviews as required. Recommend process improvement, as necessary.
  • Assist with the creation of improvement action plans for your area with the aim that these are owned and understood by all shifts.
  • Work with Health and Safety to establish a zero-accident culture by ensuring the effective enforcement of the company Health and Safety Policies and Procedures, maintaining an overview of daily records and incident logs ensuring compliance with Standard Operating Procedures and the wearing of PPE.
  • Actively participate in the development of, and work with Willington quay’s Health and Safety deployment plan; participate in bi-annual site audits as required.
  • Complete risk assessments for all processes in their work area on a regular basis which is agreed with the H&S Manager.
  • Work with Operatives to maintain the cleanliness and functionality of the machinery and the shopfloor.
  • Communicating daily requirements, setting clear team goals and targets.
  • Work with Maintenance to help reduce down-time and during periods of down-time assist Operatives with task prioritising for housekeeping.
  • Attend daily team meetings with Maintenance to ensure priorities are understood and assist Maintenance and Engineering to develop appropriate PPM schedules.
  • Monitor team performance, report on Metrics and suggest improvements via the Mini Business Units and other continuous improvement activities.
  • Communicate to Planning and site Management any underperformance which becomes an issue and propose improvement plans/timings.
  • Liaise with Planning to manage fluctuating demand levels and ensure priorities are understood/communicated. Discover training needs and provide a training plan.
  • Deal with holiday, time off requests & absenteeism.

Skills & Duties Key

  • Firm understanding of how to set up machines.
  • Full understanding of how to set up and run the machines/lines in the department to the appropriate QCDSE standards.
  • Lean manufacturing related processes.
  • Cost aware/ understanding of implications of down-time on machines.
  • How to produce Quality products.
  • H&S in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively within a team.
  • Personal organizational and time management skills.
  • Able to solve basic machine related problems.
  • Accuracy & good attention to detail. -Ability to read and understand blueprints and technical documents commensurate with machine operation.
  • Ability to organize own workload.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Demonstrable record of changing practices or suggesting improvement to practices and processes.
  • Experience of working effectively within small teams in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience of ‘tools’/systems such as ‘just in time’, 5S etc.

Desirable

  • NVQ level 4 or equivalent in Continuous Improvement.
  • NEBOSH level 3 or equivalent.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Practices attentive and active listening.
  • Working to deadlines.
  • Managing complex people issues
